Question Number 3

Research how people are consuming films. Are many audiences going to the cinema? Have ticket sales in general increased or declined in the enconomic downturn? Are audiences waiting until films are available to stream on-line or on Sky/Cable TV? Or do they prefer the cinematic experience? What about DVD sales?

Fewer people are going to the cinemas than 10 years ago, as people are able to watch it on-line, films coming out in cinemas will be affected as many people will be allowed to watch latest released films in their homes. Therefore the film industry is really worried as fewer people are going to the cinemas.  Since 2002 when 1.58 billion tickets were sold, numbers have fallen to 1.22 billion for 2011, a drop which is 20%.

Avatar alone sold four million DVDs in the first four days of its release. Before the digital transition, VHS provided healthy incomes, but streaming services seem to be changing everything.Electronics retailer Pixmania said that DVD players are at the top of its 2010 most endangered technologies. DVD's have been very popular in the US, Avatar sold more than 4 million DVD's in the first four days when it's released. However, streaming services such as downloading films on-line have impacted various amounts of people. Electronics retailer 'Pixmania' states that DVD players are at the top of its "2010's most endangered technologies" list, ahead of TV.
DVD's haven't gone smoothly as even though DVD's are taking around 75% of the market share, figures for DVDs have been in decline for the last four years. In the first quarter of 2011, physical sales in the DVD market dropped by 19%, and high-street rental fell by 36% year-on-year. This is a huge disadvantage as for example, Skyfall spent $150 million - 200 million on the whole film, this included promotional techniques for example  on the London buses Daniel Craig's poster was up there in character promoting the blue-ray DVD. However, as many people are not buying DVDs and can download films on-line they'd be wasting some of there money which is a downside and drawback.
The price of on-line content has fallen dramatically for consumers as they've seen and identified how popular it is. As Netflix subscription allows unlimited streaming for only £5.00 a month and this is watching latest releases of films! sitting at home on a computer or even phone! Lovefilm, offers a similar service for £10.00. With more than 23.5 million subscribed to Netflix, and 1.5 million to LoveFilm, this is a sign that many more people will turn to on streaming services.

Analysis of double page spread

The two pages are A4 sized each, which allows enough significant space for the contents of each page. The main image on the left hand side takes up most of the page, which only focuses on the singer. This is advantageous as the audience are engaging with the singer effectively, as this is a great close-up of Jessie J it looks like as they took the shot specifically for the magazine. It's a close-up shot which is useful as it links to the masthead itself because it says: 'Superstar Rising'. So the audience therefore are enticed to look at the singers make up and pose. In addition the colour scheme I feel is all linked as the colour of her lipstick is very similar or is the same colour of the masthead and interview questions. This is effective as it all blends in very nicely together making it look more so attractive and 'professional'.

On the top right hand corner it says 'Fun Fearless Female' this basically sums it up in a whole of the pose Jessie J is doing in the left hand side, as it's connoting to the audience and informing the audience about her confidence. And perhaps is tagging the right audience because for example, there are many insecure girls out there who would want inspiration and love Jessie J so reading just three words would encourage them to read the issue. Plus it looks like the font is in Arial and it's in black and is simple which shows it just wants to share the message to the audience. At the top it introduces the singer effectively stating her name in italics bold 'Jessie J' then having a few full stops and saying 'Superstar Rising'. This is useful as it's in different font which makes it effective and readable, but not only that it also stands out which is a key element. Having the 'Superstar Rising' in big and bold shows what position the current singer is in now and why it'd interest the audience to read it.

Underneath the masthead it describes Jessie J and her current position not only that, it sums up the magazine so to say synopsis in full. This is in italics which again stands out and attains the audience's attention. The drop down letter starts of with 'S'this font is in italics, which is useful because there proves to be a pattern. As we've already seen some words, sentences are in italics so this connotes continuity which is effective. The interview is in collums this is good as it's not only easier to read it, but looks very professional and real which would attain the audience's clear attention. In between the collums there are also lines which is effective because it builds the pattern more so. At the end of the interview there is a picture this links in with everything because as a rising star she's won an award which shows her hard work. This picture is bordered in white which makes it stand out and is effective.

Second print draft magazine

For my front cover I have used a lot of different things to make it stand it out and effective. Firstly at the top hand of my magazine I have typed up 'Brand new Teen drama coming to a TV near you' this is effective as it's not only informing the audience but grabbing their attention so to say. As I'm making them aware that it's a brand new show but that it's soon coming out so they shouldn't miss out. To make my heading short and snappy I have but the 'step' in a form of steps, this is effective as it's visually grab holds of the audience's attention which would in turn make them buy it. Next to the heading I have put the institution which is 'E4' this is sufficient as it informs the audience what channel the show is on, without having a specific heading. What I think stands out is the image I've added in a circle, it's a message on the phone from a suspicious person named 'A'. To make the audience curious and excited I felt it'd be good to add this in 'Who is A? we have all the clues you need to know' because I assumed as I'm a teenager, I always want to know the latest clues to a cliff hanger it's just what everyone likes! At the bottom I've added the website and twitter page, as I'm connoting and showing it's a brand new show and they (the audience) can keep up-to-date with the show on social networking sites (word of mouth).
This is my double page spread I've been inspired by not just only one magazine but a variety of magazines, so what I've done is captured so many different ideas and created my original one. I added two different shots on one page as firstly I stated in my bold heading 'On set with Rashmi Sharma' this means that it's an exclusive, live interview and I'm backing my point up by having these two images which I think is effective because for the audience it makes it more believable when they're reading. I chose to do interview because I saw this happening consistently in a few magazines, and it's effective I asked a wide range of questions which would specifically target teens as they'd be interested in a few things about actors/tress. My layout is done simply on one magazine but I've done small paragraphs and made it brief to encourage the audience. Adding the quote 'I want to be a truly inspiring role model for my fans' really brings out the true personality of the actress which probably would entice the audience to read the magazine. I did a similar thing underneath the first picture outlining what's on her mind while posing for the camera.

Group progress report

04/03/2013: we are on the verge of nearly finishing all of our 2-minute opening production, having finished most of the editing we are looking back on what areas we can improve on which would make it more curious.
For example, in our video lily (Rashmi/protagonist) is walking into the alley way and is held up by the mystery man however he only questions her saying "where have you been?" then the scene sways to an extreme-close-up of her eye. This doesn't pace and make as much sense as we want the guy to do something which would make it more realistic, scary and frightening. Allowing to the audience to feel shocked and curious this will result only when we create the specific enigma code.

ACTION: to re-shoot the alley way scene, perhaps adding a headlock or something exciting/frightened which would leave the audience shocked and entice them to wanting to watch more.

Print Magazine: Draft

This is the draft of one of my print magazine, as you can see it's not entirely finished off because I had a short amount of space of time to complete it by. From this I have learnt a majority of various of things, from making effects to the pictures and changing the input of the text. This is going to helpful for me when it comes to doing the original piece of the print magazine. The things that I'm personally proud of from this magazine in a whole is the layout of the text, as when I was doing my research especially from Q magazine's I identified area's in which I can use. For an example the text was spaced out and in bold but from the sell lines they had a pattern from big and bold to smaller and italics. Which is useful as there shouldn't be that much text on the magazine because it will look to busy which is a disadvantage. The central image I think Is useful (as I stated in my other post) however I feel like I could've done a lot to the image; crop it out, make it bolder, have a background to match with it and cover the image where text is not shown.

Something that I added on top of the magazine was 'Souvenir magazine' showing to the consumers/audience that this is all about the teen programme 'a step bag'. The colour I did for that was the same as 'E4' because I wanted to highlight that this is on channel E4 reminding the audience constantly, I thought it was a good idea to have the same colour. In addition to that I have spaced it out to make it look more so clear, but also in a whole it makes the magazine look more so real. For the tagline I opted out for 'The road will never be the same again', this sums out perhaps the film as a whole because I'm connoting that thing's aren't going to be the same for some of the protagonist's and this would get the audience curious allowing them to pick up the magazine. However, the central image is hiding the tagline which doesn't make it look clear and bold so if I had a chance to change it it would be that. Another thing I was lacking on was the colour scheme I wanted two significant vibrant colours, but I didn't seem to make up my mind because there was so many! So next time I need to decide and add that, having red though is showing how bold and informing the text could be which is useful.

This is one of the scenes I captured which I thought was effective and looked realistic, this is the scene where Rashmi takes the train and is not travelling this is effective as the audience are now curious into where she's going. I wanted to add this in one of the small frame boxes which I have as in the magazine I'm connoting what will happen next as teenagers love spoilers! In my official print magazine when we as a group go shooting next, I will take a number of pictures so I can use it in my magazine and it wouldn't be as blurry.

This is another scene which I screen captured I thought it was very effective, as this is a useful wide shot allowing the building to be scene in a numerous of diverse aspect's allowing the audience to engage fully. Adding it into the frame is beneficial as they can look at these footage and get valid and latest information out of it. And as I only have one 'central image' and less writing adding three scenes would make the magazine stand out more and entice the teenagers (audience).

This is the scene where the camera focuses on the phone as that's the main suspense for the audience because they aren't aware of who the person is. So to make them feel more so curious I wanted to add it on top of the third frame box to make it engaging. Also I can show through the context of the magazine me conversing about this scene and the reasons we chose it etc. which would move them to read about it. If I had the opportunity I would've added it on  to the frame boxes but the process was time consuming, however I know what I need to do to make the magazine very effective which I will be using.

Research into one of the magazines

The title of this magazine is placed at the top so it's easily visible, as other magazines are stacked with each other thus causing limited space. The typography is established as the magazines logo, as you can see there is not lines of text 'total' is in clear black bold easily spotted and this is placed in the other title 'film'. This evidently makes it look more neater and prevents the reader from reading too much as it's just the front cover. 'Total Film' is slightly covered by the centre image, this is effective as the magazine is well known and also their regular consumers are welcomed to feel 'loyal'.

The slogan is 'the modern guide to movies' it's a short, catch statement intending to sum-up the magazine's image and to stick in the readers mind. This connotes that the audience are reading the correct magazines, and 'modern' shows the latest films that consumers can grab hold of which is very attentive. Being short and snappy allows it to stick in the readers mind, and would allow them to grab hold of the similar magazine next time as they know they'll be getting the latest feedback, news. The central image is of the protagonist from the movie 'salt' this is effective as it brings the audience closer also as she is looked as a 'sexy' woman which would be attentive. Another point to be noted is the fact that she's acting too as she's holding the gun which makes it more so engaging. The flash is called 'salt' and this advertises the films name flash is an example of a convention- a device to which the audience have become accustomed and whose 'sense' they take for granted. The typography is diverse from the rest which makes it stands out being in lines, informing the audience straight away of what film it is.

The colour scheme is not a lot which is effective as it thus avoids the cover becoming too busy. Sticking to a limited colour scheme is advantageous as it allows the design, font, images to stand out more neatly. As you can evidently see the three main colours which are used are; orange, black and grey. All in which are used effectively displaying the magazine cover very well as it works well together creating a vibe, creating the cool and fresh look effectively. The sell lines are useful too as 'Bikinis in the Movie' underneath the flash is a source of engagement as it's displaying information from the movie inside the magazine which the readers may want to see. This can be a similar thing I could be using for example, Heartbreak in the movie? allowing the audience to assume several things and get's them questioning.

Group Progress

03/02/2013: The picture above was from Ealing Town Hall the area in which we did the shooting in, and ofcourse Mandeep taking the picture of us. From my previous group progress report (which was month ago) we have improved so much. As in this we got together in my house creating a slide show to present to the entire class, on our idea talking about the synopsis, setting, casting, location etc. And we got approved everyone liked our idea we had the downs which were; Locations getting accepted to shoot in local areas otherwise it'd be a lot of trouble, having the right casting because without good actors our film wouldn't be as good. Taking everything to consideration we have moved drastically ahead, having now completed 50 shots in the storyboard, having done all our pre-production tasks and so on.

Today we went to Ealing Town Hall to shoot a few scenes for the first time, we did get accepted and got the manager to sign on the location papers (which I'll be uploading soon) for evidence.

We spent 4 hours in total shooting today, from doing various of retakes again and again getting it right also making it easier for us to edit as we will have many scenes. The first scene we did is of rashmi the protagonist we shot her and ashwaira (school friend) inside the class this went very well as we had the correct shots for example: low angle shots, match on action, over-the-shoulder shots and so forth. We also shot the tracking shot of rashmi going down the stairs checking her phone, going outside and having a mid-shot of her. So we did get a lot done and what we needed to in ealing town hall. As we got accepted so we didn't waste any time and moved straight on to it. Overall I think it did go very well and we looked back at the scenes to see if we need to do another take, and this is what we did. Overall We're happy with what we've done so far.

After shooting at Ealing town hall we did eventually go to southall trainstation, we thought we might as well go as we had the time, camera and cast. We did firstly ask permission from the security and person working their and they accepted (signed the form) so we went ahead and shot the scene. What we did was shoot Rashmi from the other end of the platform having a mid-shot of her, showing the platform in a whole then as the train went by stopped then went she wasn't their that's what we wanted to display. And it worked perfectly, as we got everything in time this is were the storyboard helped us a lot as we followed it carefully.
In addition we filmed rashmi going inside the trainstation and we took several takes but it worked out correctly, we also made sure that people weren't looking directly at the camera and did a tracking shot of rashmi upfront. Which did go as we planned we also added more shots as we felt we needed too from the storyboard, which did get us thinking ahead and we were all in focus today which was very good.

ACTION PLAN:
Finish of other scenes which need doing
Add more shots in shot list, as filming we know we need more shots in other scenes
Come together as a group discuss sound
discuss editing
look upon doing title-sequence

Progress Report

01/02/2013: My previous action plans were;
Show Mr Bush our storyboard, scripts and casting etc.
See whether or not it's up to scratch and is good.
Start Shooting

As a group we showed sir our Pre-production elements, he agreed on the script however the storyboards were exceedingly short this is because we only done 15 shots and were being very precise. This was a huge drawback as we needed as many shots at possible because when it comes to shooting, we have to keep taking diverse shots and retaking the scenes. So we needed to add in detail all of the shots we will be using from the start to the end. Me and a group member Ashwaria have started doing this dividing the sheets up 5 me, 5 her altogether having 50 shots as their are 5 shots in each paper. As a group on Monday's lesson we came up with diverse camera angles we may be having and put it down, we should have this completed by Saturday.

As the other casting and pre-production, ideas were good we are therefore going to start our shooting, as If you can see on Rashmi's blog she had asked permission whether we can shoot at Ealing town hall or not and the date we got was 3/02/2013. As a result me and the group feel confident enough to commence the shooting as we have our cast (Rashmi & Ashwaria) for the chosen scene. Moreover I have completed scanning sketches for our ideal scenes, this is useful as we can visually see how it looks like. Also I have asked several pupils ages 15-18 of how effective this looks and if they are willing to view this, and the answer was yes also the teacher agreed so we'll be using that as an influence and help with the acting. In addition I have also described our synopsis in detail so it's understood by us and the teacher too as it's a tricky synopsis, outlining the storyline is short for our whole clip "A Step Back".

ACTION PLAN
Complete the 50 shots (storyboard) by 03/02/2013 in time for shooting our first scene.
Complete shot list after storyboard. (Mandeep)
Print out all the essential forms needed i.e  permission for the location.

Tuesday 29 January 2013

This is the collage I created for my audience profile, I added in pictures suited for the stereotypical teenagers such as teen boys with hoody's ages at 18 and above. I added trainers as a lot of young men ages 18-30 wear Nike trainers as this is a famous brand too so it represents and relates to them. I added two famous rappers who are Snoop-dog and Tupac this is because these are internationally famous rappers and some teens look up to them, also they smoke and have done drugs too which relates to typical teens. The Ferrari I added connotes teenagers dreams as most of them are struggler's and they want to become someone and make money, also have dreams one of the dreams could be having a really nice car such as the one above. I added a character from Ill Manors as this can be engaging towards the audience as he is holding a gun connoting a significant iconography. Behind my title Ill Manors I have a faded picture of someone smoking this is to show what teens do in their teens, taking advantage of their large amount of freedom.

First draft of Print Magazine

INSTITUTION: For the magazine E4 is the institution to inform this to the readers I have put it in big on the top right hand corner, this is beneficial as E4 is a programme designed for teens to adults. So identifying this it would instantly attract teen audiences. I think it's beneficial as E4 helps promote the teen series 'A step back'. As evidently it's not well known so to have E4 on their would enhance and make our programme more known, as already E4 is well known. I will be colouring it in the same colour as E4 to make the icon stand out to the preferred target audience.

TITLE: I put the title as 'A step back' as it is a souvenir magazine, but as it is quite long I have put it so the 'step' is in the a, this is useful as there is therefore not that much going on and I don't want their too be too much text as it's only a front cover. It's placed in the top so it's easily visible. The typography fits in line with the whole context as it's not too loud or too quite it's just right. I wanted to show the tension and diverse emotions so that's why I went for this type of typography.

TAGLINE: After the title I put the tagline underneath in a obviously smaller font this is to that audiences are clear and can therefore work out it is the tagline. The tagline is 'the road will never be the same again'. I went for this as it describes the series in a whole connoting that life is not going to be the same, as she will be facing hard consequences showing glimpses of reality. This will allow the audience to assume several questions and get their mind set thinking which would want them to perhaps read the magazine.

CENTRAL IMAGE: I sketched a picture of the main protagonist (Rashmi) as I think this will be engaging towards the audience as they will looking at the trailer already be familiar with the character. I employed a singly, strong central image which serves to anchor the cover and it helps establishes the magazine's core values and identity. Using for example, the mouth and eyes is useful as it's the most expressive part of the face. I drew it so the 'protagonist' is looking directly at the camera using Direct Mode Of Address. This is effective as it allows the audience to engage more so as the character's addressing the audience in a particular way.

SELL LINES: There are text placed around the central image to advertise the content of the magazine in a whole, there are larger sell lines and samller ones. The larger ones I did I wanted to connect it towards the 'central image' as this is an example of convention allowing the audience to become accustomed. For example, I wrote 'RASHMI SHARMA' in bold so the audience directly looks at it underneath it I wrote 'exclusive interview'. So as to say there employs a balance and again there is therefore not that much information which could bore the audience, especially when aiming it at teenagers they read something which attracts them; having big letters.

QUOTE: I wrote a quote next to the central image to show what the person is thinking and its useful as it allows the audience to engage too. I too noticed in many souvenir magazine's that they had quotes and it had me enticed. Therefore I used one, it's a simple one saying 'I've never been so happy'! With a smile on the protagonists face. This is useful as the two connect in a evident way but not only that it moves the audience to think what made her so happy? Therefore they'd want to turn to the page and find out. Moreover, I put this in bold so it instantly attracts the audiences vital attention.

COLOUR SCHEME: In order to avoid becoming too busy and difficult to decode, I stuck to a limited colour scheme it allows it to feel more relaxed and provides a particular 'vibe' which is effective. I chose the colour purple and I'm still thinking for another one or two more to go with it to make it look relaxed overall. I will do a trial on photo shop and thus base my decision on that.

BAR CODE/PRICING: for straightforward selling purposes I've used the price '£2.99'  as I want to show it's not expensive especially prior being the fact it's to teens. However, I've put it small so it doesn't compromise integrity.

SCENE FRAMES: at the bottom I drew scene footage snaps and put them in a frame and underneath said 'BE THE FIRST TO LOOK AT SCENES! this is highly anticipating as most teens like reading or visually seeing stories ahead as it really intrigues them and keeps them going. So therefore I came up with the idea to have this as it will mentally and visually engage them as they will be visually seeing it but when they also read it it will be emotionally good too, depicting the context again of the magazine in a whole.

Pre-production: Synopsis

The Absurdity Of Teenage Angst Is Never Rewarded

Teen angst is the phase that teenagers go through where they feel that no one understands them, that no matter how good they do have it, life is not giving them enough. They thus feel isolated, alone and unhappy, very angry at basically nothing.

An absurdity is something that is extremely unreasonable, to be foolish or not taken seriously.

The message we are trying to convey  is that teenagers being in that frame of mind is a wrong attitude to have and to portray and you won't get nothing in return for having that mind. So we want to portray the negative aspects of having that sort of mind frame and what consequences teenagers will go through. We as a group instead want to show why and how teenagers should appreciate life and be thankful for what they have.

Sunday 20 January 2013

Pre-production: Sketching visual scenes

This is something that I sketched out not basing it entirely upon the specific protagonist (Rashmi) but just showing how one of the shots are going to be taken place. For example, this is the scene were she comes out of the building (college) and there occurs a mid-shot of the girl as we want to show the facial expressions and body-language very closely. I have analyse two aspects; two bags, as these two are the only props needed for the specific scene. The image we are trying to present to the audience is how she's on a 'mission' seeking out to find a resolution type, and this is the point where the audience will be assuming diverse questions. What I feel is effective is as you can see I drew some windows/door this is to show some of the building but we want to show the reflection of what the protagonist is seeing, this is because it will allow the audience to be in the character's point of view and therefore set the scene in a whole.

In this image I have sketched out a draft of a close-up of when the girl looks in her pocket to seek for her phone, this is a clever shot as this is our first close-up shot in the whole of our 2-minute opening clip. The audience can see the use of her body-language and in particular the costume she's wearing how that connotes the character in a whole for her. And this is one of the shots we want to do as this allows the audience to be in the protagonists point of view because it's like the audience are looking for the phone too. Underneath this I drew a sketch of her face the close-up after the previous shot is done. This is because I wanted to show the group how it'd look effective if we proceeded with this, also the facial-expressions on her face is very effective looking down towards what she is finding.

After and before scenarios are sketched by me too showing the cases of when the protagonist is in the building their is a tracking shot from behind, but this is effective as their is going to be use of low-key lighting as depicted on the picture. We want to black everything out so all the audiences are entitled to view is the scenery on the 'before' image, as this allows the audience to be in the character's point of view and aid them into engage towards the short clip. The binary opposition here is between the character inside and the world outside are as there are bright colours outside and very dark inside this could perhaps connote the psychographics which are 'strugglers'. In the 'after' image it shows of when she's out and due to her facial-expressions the audience will perhaps be able to realise that she is an explorer and is ready to go and search, even though they are not aware of the storyline this would probably give them a huge insight cleverly. Also when this shot takes place we will be using key-lighting as it is not only the brightest but also highly influential. For this we will be using a mid-shot as the audience are able to identify the character's body-language and facial-expressions closely. However, you can see the contrast in the 'before' image as there consists of a long-shot from behind showing full body language as audience will be viewing how she's standing etc.

This is just an extreme-close up of an eye I did as we want to see how it will visually look when we do start filming, and we think this is very effective as it will engage with the audience and is a good way in using camera angles also keeping the audience on the edge of there seats.

Progress Report

20/01/13: This is the point where I have completed my previous 'action plans' as I have looked into finishing the assigned taks for example, I have spoken about the; casting, locations, costume, make-up, props & lighting. I have also added pictures to show it visually as it's more clear also showing what we'll be adding in our 2-minute opening clip. Also, adding a video to show our inspirations and the areas in which we will be using in our video which is part of the 'research and planning'. Moreover, me and Rashmi have completed the script as this was our duty and we have successfully fulfilled our role as it's the script is clear and will therefore evidently aid us when doing our clip. Ashwaria had to do the storyboard once we did the script and she did. Drawing the shots and diverse scenes which will be taken place and saying how long each scene or shot will be taken place so it's clearer and time related.

Previous Action Plan: COMPLETED
Continue with further research and analyse from inspirations from for example, e4 teen prgrammes before the water-shed.
Research the actors we can possibly have by going to the drama group as we want our clip to be professional.
After script is done start on the storyboard straight away.
Email the ealing council to ask for permission in various of locaations.
Research different sound which can be suitable for A step back and aslo elements of sound during the clip.
Research on the title sequence look at different aspects in teen dramas which could inspire us on the clip.

Action Plan:
Show Mr Bush our storyboard, scripts and casting etc. See whether or not it's up to the preferred standard, and if he accepts it. If not make changes to what he think we could do
Keep looking at diverse E4 teen programmes for the title-sequence ideas (more)
Start shooting

Pre-production: Storyboard

These are the completed storyboards and as you can evidently see there are clear shots which we are going to use, for example an extreme-close up on the eye to show that this is the type of shot we will be using for the specific scene. We finished the script and moved on straight away to the storyboard, we feel that when we start shooting we can consistently look back to guide us and set us on the right track. And if needed we will be adding on perhaps more or less shots when we feel what's right at the appointed time. But at this very moment we feel the storyboard is up to scratch and a reliable source of when it comes to us looking back on it, because it's visually helpful and their are captions and shots to carry on guiding us which is very useful.

(Rashmi walks down the flight of stairs upset with her phone in her hand, texting someone. She get's out of the building and there consists of a fast shot of her walking past the shops, with her phone in her hand, we can see a close up of the suspicious someone texting her saying "Come and see me now or else". She's really worried)

(Clip ends with the cliff hanger)

Mise en scene: Casting, Props, Make-up & Lighting

Casting: There will only be three of us casting in our production, as it'd be less hassle and three of us will be more committed into dedicated time and rehearsing again and again. Rashmi is going to be the protagonist we opted her as she has done Drama before gaining a B which is effective, as she's good at acting and we don't want people who don't know how to act in the production because it won't look professional over all and may effect our clip. Me and Ashwaria are only playing minor roles in this because this clip revolves around the protagonist and her life, Ashwaria is going to be a college friend of Rashmi and is only going to be saying 'bye' or something to make it look she finished college, and realistic. I will be playing a different role of a boy the one disturbing her but I won't be shown (face) only the costume and body-language is going to be having a big impact so I need to make sure I'm doing that correctly.

Props: We will be using a short number of props as we feel it's not needed in our clip, there will be a rucksack which the protagonist (rashmi) will carrying as she just finished her college and she's journeying across so it's evidently needed. Moreover, there will also be a blackberry as she will be texting an anonymous person which the audience won't be aware of as they will only be allowed to know some information, this allows them to be fully engaged and assume some things. The phone blackberry can also be in line with our target audience as a lot of teenagers have them so it's a vital element in allowing them to be more so engaged, and the protagonist will be receiving a call so the phone will be needed.

Make-up & Costume: I will be wearing pale foundation to look more like a villain and a boy but I will be wearing a hoody and have low-key lighting so the audience won't be able to tell anyway, but if we do have a close-up and edit it right the paleness some of it should show to create enigma code. Rashmi will be wearing top eye-liner and maybe a bit of Vaseline  this is to connote how she's a maturer person from the past but that she doesn't have anyone to dress up for the audience can assume that, and we want to show how she's just a normal girl too hence why she'll be wearing jeans and a jacket. Ashwaria will also be dressing casually as she's in college wearing jeans and a top she'll be wearing top, bottom eye-liner to show she's a normal girl too and we're not going to have too much for the two as it wouldn't be showing the realism.

Lighting: We will be using key-lighting when filming at the train-station this is because we want to show the realism when the scene commences however, we may show an area of low-key lighting because we want to portray the enigma and suspense also this will get the audience assuming various things and that's how we want to keep their mind frame lighting will therefore help this to occur. We will be using key-lighting when the protagonist will be waking up after the dream to again create the realism and to emphasis the facial-expression and body-language. Moreover, when she finishes college their will be majority of key-lighting to depict the setting and show how everythings happening, then we'll have low-key lighting when she's alone by herself to build the tension and allow the audience to feel more so engaged and assume various of things.

Mise en scene: Location

OR

These are the two ideas our group have come up with, as our idea consists of a girl walking down a flight of stairs and we want to show how she has just finished college, so the audience are informed and know what is going on. Whilst she walks down the stairs she will be texting someone we may use a sound over to show how the tension is building up and this in turn will create the enigma codes. Whilst this happens we will be showing the setting too by the antiques which might be engaging towards the audience, and creates the scene in a whole. When she comes out we will have a mid-shot of her showing the building in a whole as this will fit the scene and in a whole look more so real showing that she's coming out of a big building (college).
Another way in which we will be using the location is having a dolly shot in the beginning of the building as this will allow the audience feel curious and engaged because it's a positive way in starting a scene I believe.
Rashmi has emailed the ealing town hall for permission and if we don't get accepted our other option will be the temple which has a lot of stairs and looks brilliant, and we have a chance of getting permission as one of our members know's someone of their who can allow us.

If we don't get accepted for Hammersmith train station we will just be doing it in Southall as we may do it very early so we can get it done and over with as we're only going to be doing a take of the train going by. Also we can go during different times where it's not as busy so it will be easier for us to concentrate. If we won't be able to shoot here I will email them seeking for permission but because it's local and we're not getting into anyone's way it should be okay. We are going to be filming the girl on the other side and of the train passing by, when it goes she won't be their this will create enigma code and would be very effective way in filming. This won't take much time and we don't need anyone in their because we will be showing loneliness and only having her and the train, may allow us therefore to shoot in Southall.

This is the Location filming website which I found, as we are planning to film in the underground trains station, so I looked to find out the contact details. We were thinking of doing it outside of westfields as this is mostly were teenagers go and socialise or shop with firends, so there is ultimately a close link between the scene and the target audeinces.

As you can see here I emailed the correct person in accordance to the location, which is in Hammersmith I have told the lady my details and for how long we want to shoot their. This is useful as we may get into trouble without notifying anyone, which would disturb our clip in a whole. Hammersmith is on of the places we are thinking still (Westfields) of going to as it could relate closely to our target audience and allow them to feel more so engaged. We have other locations in mind if this one doesn't work as well or our mind changes.
